24 IDAHO FALLS MAGAZINE OCTOBER 2019
Albeit an artform, photography also relies on a
hefty amount of science. Few applications of image-making can
hammer this point home better than astrophotography.
When the daylight fades to starlight, all the requisite standards
of composition apply. The trick is how to achieve an interesting
composition while also accurately exposing and focusing... in the
dark. Color shifts, camera-shake, sensor noise and optical aberra-
tions are just a sampling of the many challenges that can get in the
way of a stunning nightscape.
Did these images hit the mark? We certainly think so. If you
want to submit your own, now is the time. The 2020 East Idaho
Community Photo Contest deadlines Oct. 31.
