2 IDAHO FALLS PARKS & REC FALL/WINTER 2019 Exciting times are ahead for the City of Idaho Falls. It gives me great pleasure to introduce our new Parks and Recreation Director, PJ Holm. We proudly welcome PJ to the leadership team at the City. PJ previously served as the acting director of the department and was selected after the city conducted a nationwide search process that drew 102 applicants from across the country. PJ's broad range of experience and expertise made him a top caliber contender to compete with any nationally ranked candidate and we are very pleased to have him leading our Parks and Recreation Department. With new leadership and new vision, we have an exciting time ahead. One of the things that became abundantly clear during the hiring process is that the range of parks and recreational programs and activities Idaho Falls' citizens enjoy is actually very broad--including the zoo, rodeo, ice sports, fishing ponds, landscaping, bike paths and walking trails, aquatics, movies in the park, golf, and many, many other recreational offerings. These programs offered by our department's professional staff rank right up there among the best programs being offered anywhere in the country. We are indeed fortunate. This fall the department staff members are putting the finishing touches on the Parks and Recreation Comprehensive Plan, which will serve as a road map to guide future Parks and Recreation growth. The data for the plan came from all those citizens who took the time to attend our public meetings, take our surveys and provide input in the past year. Your involvement is always key to shaping the future of our city. As the weather grows colder, I hope you will continue to take advantage of all that we offer. Activities like swim lessons and water safety at the aquatic center to help kids maintain what they've learned in summer swim lessons might be a good idea. And as the seasons change and the snow returns, I encourage you to get out and enjoy our city's many ski trails, join a sports league or skate the ice ribbon at Tautphaus Park. Recreational offerings such as these are the secret to the amazing Idaho Falls lifestyle we enjoy, and this Idaho Falls Parks & Recreation Guide you hold in your hands is the perfect tool to help you plan wintertime fun to keep the entire family active. We hope it is useful to you as you plan ways to get out and enjoy all the beauty and wonder that exists in our community over the winter months. We also encourage you to make use of our website, www. idahofallsidaho.gov, and social media to keep up with all the news, activities and events in the city. Simply click on the Notify Me button on the homepage of our website to sign up for automatic updates that will keep you in-the-know year round. As the holiday season approaches, I encourage you to find time to reflect on the wonderful city we enjoy and the amazing quality of life we have here in Idaho Falls. With new leadership to guide us, and a great plan to follow, we look forward to working together as we build for our future in this wonderful city we call home.
