InBrief Continued from page 23 Motor Information Systems is strengthening its medium- and heavy-duty aftermarket services by updating to its all-makes OEM-data-sourced Truck Service product. Mack Trucks products now feature a unique QR code, allowing a service adviser to access the trucks VIN, owner information and dealer service history. Mack joins Volvo in implementing QR codes through the MVASIST system. Volvo Trucks North America will equip fifth-wheel coupling devices from Jost International as standard equipment on VN and VHD tractors manufactured at its plant in Dublin, Va. Meritor Wabco announced availability of its next-generation OnGuard collision mitigation system and the combination of auto lift axle control and tire inflation data management into its new Rollover Stability Support 1M system. 24 Eaton, Cummins collaborate on powertrain package Companies tout 3-6% fuel economy improvements over prior pairings E aton and Cummins unveiled a new powertrain package for the North American linehaul and regional-haul truckload and less-than-truckload markets designed to deliver 3 to 6 percent fuel-economy improvements over already available Cummins-Eaton engine-transmission pairings. The package available for order in fall 2013 integrates the Cummins ISX15 in 415- and 450-hp versions with the Eaton Fuller Advantage Series automated transmission. Representatives from both companies said the package will enable significant downspeeding of rpms at highway cruise speeds while leading to reduced preventive maintenance costs. New SmartTorque2 ratings build on the SmartTorque ratings now available for the Cummins ISX15 and ISX12. TheISX15 415 ST2 will output peak torque of 1,450-1,650 lb.-ft., with the ISX15 450 ST2 providing 1,550-1,750 lb.-ft. Cummins has patented the new Vehicle Acceleration Management feature to manage power output during vehicle acceleration for smoother shifting and additional fuel economy in stop-and-go duty cycles. Eatons Advantage Series automated transmission will be offered as a small ratio-step overdrive model. Elimination of thecooler helps to reduce overall package weight and improve reliability. Combined with the use of aluminum for the rear transmission housing, range cylinder, shift bar housing and the shift tower along with a thin-wall cast-iron main case design the new transmission weighs 75 pounds less than Eatons UltraShift Plus LAS base model. A new precision lubrication system further enhances fuel economy. commercial carrier journal | april 2013 Untitled-43 1 0413_Equipdept_Jack.indd 24 Text INFO to 205-289-3554 or visit www.ccjdigital.com/info 3/15/13 8:36 AM 3/20/13 9:43 AM
