cepts, not just plays. Hes trying to make us understand football, Appleby said. The terminology is definitely advanced. Its the NFL. Once we get a chance to know that and make that transition, things are going to run smoothly. Moving to attack Not that the offensive players are the only ones learning a new system. So are the defensive guys, and theyre liking what they see so far. Its really fun. Youre allowed to play more and you have more freedom to do stuff. It allows you to play aggressive, safety Landon Feichter said. If its aggressive now, Im looking forward to what its going to be like after three weeks of practices. Coordinator Greg Hudson joked that the system cant be too difficult because he has to remember it. He said the degree of difficulty of the system probably equates to my GPA in college. Its not that high. But it will try to be swarming and attacking. Cornerback Ricardo Allen said players are expected to touch the ballcarrier on every play in practice. Hudson wants all 11 players to get to the ball quickly, saying its usually the second or third player who gets the football. Every play is penetrating and every play is making somebody go sideways and not straight downfield, Allen said. Dual role Though Raheem Mostert has spent the first five spring practices at receiver, hes playing the Z spot that also will showcase his running ability on handoffs, Shoop said. Mostert said hell play anywhere, but he feels more comfortable at receiver than in his first two seasons with the Boilermakers. He attributes that to the new playbook. The playbook last year, I dont know how to describe it. It was easy but yet I still couldnt understand, he said during the first week of practices. Basically they were going off what the other team does. As far as the new playbook, were not doing that. Were just going off what we do and how were going to approach this. Who cares how the other team is lining up? Were going to go in there and dominate. To see that, its crazy because last year we were basically going off Cover 2, which linebacker was doing what and wed adjust to him. Now, were just going to go. This years offense is looking pretty good. They know Im a key player and they want me to be at my best. They dont care about anything else besides players being at their best. Mostert didnt catch a pass during his first two seasons, and the team mostly utilized his explosiveness as a kick returner or by lining him up in the backfield. Mostert showed some physicality at both of those spots, breaking tackles when he didnt just blow past people with his speed. He plans on that continuing to be a strength, especially now that hes close to the coaches preferred weight of 190 pounds and stronger than ever. Im lifting a lot more, he said. Just the other day, I was doing 285 (bench press) for five (reps) and Ive never done that before. I guess its the adrenaline, I dont know what that is. But when I step into that weight room, I feel like Im getting bigger. My weight is gaining, which I like to see. The physical part of me, TWIN CITY DODGE CHRYSLER JEEP RAM 650 Sagamore Parkway South Lafayette, IN 47905 See the 2013 Jeep Wrangler! 800-562-4581 twincitysuperstore.com GoldanDBlack express volume 23, express 27 25
