DECEMBER 2019 THE WOLVERINE 31   MICHIGAN FOOTBALL didn't and was never offered the job) wrote Oct. 22 that Harbaugh was seek- ing an "exit strategy" for the NFL. "Sources tell FootballScoop that Harbaugh's representatives have their eye on getting their client back in the NFL," the website wrote. Harbaugh responded with a letter to players' and recruits' parents. "Dear Parents," he wrote. "I am reaching out to let you know that the recent claims that I am 'pursuing an exit strategy' are total crap. It's an an- nual strategy driven by our enemies to cause disruption to our program and to negatively recruit. By the way, I don't even have an 'agent' or 'repre- sentative.' "I am committed to your sons, their education and to their development as football players and people. "Please excuse the informality of this letter, but I felt that it was important to get this out to you as quickly as pos- sible. "Feel free to reach out if you have any questions. Happy to discuss. "Go Blue!" Harbaugh elaborated on it days later during his Monday press conference. "To our parents, keeping the lines of communication open with our par- ents … always had a policy of that," Harbaugh told reporters. "[The letter] wasn't really for public consumption. Let's put it this way — I use that term [enemies], or maybe the term of people that choose not to tell the truth." — Chris Balas MICHIGAN DROPS UCLA, ANNOUNCES SCHEDULE CHANGES Michigan's home-and-home series with UCLA is no more. The Wolver- ines canceled their 2022-23 show- downs with the Bruins to ensure a seven-game home schedule each year, filling the Sept. 10, 2022 slot with the fourth meeting against Hawai'i and opening the 2023 campaign Sept. 2 with East Carolina. Stadium Network's Brett McMur- phy reported that Michigan will be required to pay the Bruins a $1.5-mil- lion buyout to get out of the contract. U-M has faced the Rainbow War- riors twice in Honolulu (1986 and 1998) and once at home, a 63-3 win in 2016. The Wolverines won 27-10 and 48-17 at Hawai'i. The meeting with the Pirates will be the first-ever matchup between the two programs. Michigan last faced a Pac-12 team Sept. 17, 2016, a win over Colorado, but will open next season with Wash- ington. The game with Hawai'i will be the Wolverines' first with a Mountain West foe since beating Air Force on Sept. 16, 2017, and the contest against East Carolina will be U-M's first with an American Athletic squad since de- feating SMU last season.
