54 THE WOLVERINE DECEMBER 2019   BASKETBALL RECRUITING There's one school, however, to watch closely. "I'm talking to North Carolina a little bit. I just started talking to them, get- ting to know each other, mainly," he said "They have a really, really good history, so I feel like I'd have to go on an unofficial and see what it's like there, get to know them better." Michigan is recruiting him as a point guard, though he seems himself as a versatile guard. "I feel like I can do everything," he said. "Set players up, play defense … I can score. I've got the mid-range game, and I can hit the three. I just feel like I can do most everything from my posi- tion." He's looking for one style in particu- lar, and it's one Howard has empha- sized at Michigan. "I would say getting up and down, playing fast," he said. "I'm not really a half-court system type of player, but I can be if that's what the coach needs." Another top junior, Elizabeth (N.J.) The Patrick School's Jonathan Kum- inga, Rivals.com's No. 1 prospect in the class, has Michigan in his top 10. Duke, Texas Tech, Memphis, Auburn, Florida State, Georgia, Kentucky, Washington and Maryland are the others on his list. CLASS OF 2022 JETT HOWARD ENJOYED MICHIGAN VISIT H o l l y w o o d ( F l a . ) U n i v e r s i t y School's Jett Howard (6-4, Rivals. com's No. 46 sophomore nationally) suffered an ankle injury in March that finally slowed him, causing him to miss action at the October USA Bas- ketball session in Colorado Springs. He's still one of the top players in his class — and yes, he's another of U-M head coach Juwan Howard's sons. The younger Howard, brother of 2020 target Jace Howard, remains wide open in the recruiting process, despite the obvious ties to Michi- gan and a great October visit to Ann Arbor. "My recruitment's 100 percent open," he said. "I haven't commit- ted anywhere yet." Taking a visit to his dad's school was unique, he noted with a laugh. "They treated me like any other recruit, but when we were having conversations at the dinner table with all the recruits, it was kind of like a father-son chat. It really wasn't like a recruitment," he said. "For my brother, they were breaking down how he would fit in the sys- tem and all the things they would do for other recruits." It wouldn't be surprising to see both brothers in maize and blue. Jett, though, has plenty to see before he makes a decision. "I love Florida, Vanderbilt, Mi- ami and all the in-state schools like that," he said, insisting he'd be tak- ing more visits in the near future. As for his family — it's as com- petitive as you might expect. "If you ask him, he would say he won every one-on-one game," Jett said of his brother. "Ask me and I'd say I won every one. Even playing a Madden game we'll get in an argu- ment. It's very competitive in my household. "I've never played one on one with my dad. He's scared to play me. When I was little, I always used to ask him, 'When I grow up can I play you one on one?' He'd say, 'No, it's not going to happen.'" ❏ On The Web For regular reports on Michigan basketball recruiting plus videos of U-M commitments and targets visit TheWolverine.com. Though just a sophomore, Howard has several big programs after his services and claims to be wide open in the recruiting process despite his father being the head coach at Michigan. PHOTO BY GARRETT ELLWOOD/USA BASKETBALL WOLVERINES SEND OUT LATE 2020 OFFER Shooting guard Adam Miller of Chicago Morgan Park (6-2, Rivals.com's No. 27 senior nationally) announced via Twitter Nov. 12 he'd been offered by Michigan and would be visiting the weekend of Nov. 15-17, during which U-M played Elon on the hardwood and the football team hosted Michigan State. The four-star Miller, listed as the nation's No. 9 shooting guard, is thought to be leaning toward Illinois, and has Arizona and Louisville among his finalists. Head coach Juwan Howard is from Chicago and close with Miller's Mac Irvin Fire AAU program. Arizona State, Kansas and Wake Forest are also on his offer list. "Miller has seen the other finalists officially and his rumored favorite has changed a few times over the last three to four months," Rivals.com's Eric Bossi wrote Nov. 5. "However, the chance to replace former high school teammate Ayo Dosunmu and play for his home state at Illinois is starting to sound as if it will be too much to pass up."
