U.S. ICE RINK NEWS Updates from the United States Ice Rink Association 2019 Regional Training Program Season Recap October concluded another successful Regional Training Program season, the final courses being held at the Greensboro Ice House in Greensboro, N.C. This year, United States Ice Rink Association hosted 15 CIT/CRA courses at 11 different locations around the coun- try. We congratulate the 63 members that earned a U.S. Ice Rinks professional designation in 2019, and would like to thank the facility members that hosted training programs, the instructors who contributed their time and expertise, and all of the students for their commitment to continuing their education and profes- sional development. Supporting Regional Rink Management Associations U.S. Ice Rinks staff traveled to Cohasset, Minnesota, September 3-6, to participate in the Minnesota Ice Arena Managers Association (MIAMA) annual fall confer- ence as a sponsor, exhibitor and educa- tion provider. U.S. Ice Rinks held a Basic Arena Refrigeration (BAR) course for attendees during the conference. On September 26, U.S. Ice Rinks participated in the Wisconsin Ice Arena Management Association (WIAMA) annual "Fall Fire Up" event held in West Salem, Wisconsin, followed closely visit- ing the Rocky Mountain Rink Association (RMRA) member meeting held in Littleton, Colorado, providing SIRO courses for attendees at both events. We would like to thank the MIAMA, NEISMA, RMRA and WIAMA board of directors and membership for the opportu- nity to support their events again this year. FOMA extends manage- ment agreement with U.S. Ice Rinks Facility Operations Managers Association (FOMA) extended their association man- agement agreement with the U.S. Ice Rinks for another five years. FOMA is a membership association for individu- als that work for NHL team arenas and NHL affiliated minor league team arenas. U.S. Ice Rinks has provided association management services to FOMA since its inception in 2007. 2019 Annual Membership and Board of Director Meetings Held in October The annual membership meeting was held in Colorado Springs, Colorado, prior to the annual Board of Director meeting on October 29. U.S. Ice Rinks COO, Jeff Theiler presented an operations report and answered questions from the mem- bers present at the meeting. A copy of the meeting minutes and the current organi- zation bylaws are available for view in the "Members Only Resources" section of usicerinks.com. The annual board of directors meeting was held immediately after the member- ship meeting October 29-30. The board discussed current business and set goals and objectives for 2020. During the meet- ing, the following topics were discussed: • NARCE Present & Future • Membership Benefits & Resources • Education & Recertification • Marketing & Social Media • Governance Policies & Procedures This meeting also provided our newly- elected board members their first oppor- tunity to interact with current board members and contribute to the process of providing direction and leadership for the organization.
