MEXICO AND SCORE’S NEW PARTNERSHIP Mexico’s Federal Government and SCORE International sign landmark alliance Photos by Jack Wright In an unprecedented effort, the Mexican Federal Government, through the Secretary of Tourism (SECTUR) and SCORE International, recently signed an agreement to develop a Strategic Alliance. This was done to help promote jointly the MEXICO promotional brand and the many tourism services and attractions of Baja California and the rest of Mexico as well as all of the SCORE races throughout Mexico and abroad. The signing took place at the Riviera Cultural Center during race week of the 52nd BFGoodrich Tires SCORE Baja 1000 presented by 4Wheel Parts with the presence of the Governor of Baja California, Jaime Bonilla Valdez, SECTUR representative Nicolas Cano, Baja California Senator Gerardo Novelo, Ensenada Mayor Armando Ayala, Baja California Undersecretary of Tourism Ivete Casillas, SCORE International representatives Abelardo Grijalva and Juan Tintos Funcke as well as municipal, state and federal authorities and private sector representatives. Nicolás Cano, the representative of the Federal Secretary of Tourism of Mexico, mentioned that the Strategic Alliance signed with SCORE International is of great importance because it will provide worldwide exposure not only for the SCORE races but also for Baja California and Mexico joining the ranks of Formula 1 Races and NFL games that take place here. He added that the four SCORE races will be promoted by the Federal Secretary of Tourism in all of the 32 Mexican states as well as abroad through social media, tourism events among other alternatives. For his part, Baja California State Governor Jaime Bonilla Valdez expressed that SCORE races produce high hotel occupancy, attracting an average of 150,000 visitors and generating $10-Million in revenue per race for the host city as well as areas along the route of the race, and through international promotion. He celebrated the signing of the alliance and praised the work that SCORE International has done over the years in promoting Baja California and promised to continue supporting the SCORE World Desert Championship. Ensenada Mayor Armando Ayala highlighted the fact that SCORE races promote Ensenada’s tourism attractions and services on television, social media, and with the national and foreign press. He also confirmed that his administration will support the three races scheduled to take place in Ensenada next year. SCORE General Manager Juan Tintos Funcke noted that the landmark alliance was made possible by the leadership and work of Senator Gerardo Novelo and the great disposition from the Mexican Federal Government to undertake this unprecedented effort that will benefit both parties and will consolidate SCORE International’s relationship with federal authorities.
