2019 Trophy Truck Spec Champion Sara Price From Rookie To Class Champion, Sara Price Still Has More Goals To Reach By Dan Sanchez Photos by Get Some Photo Starting her SCORE Baja racing career in 2018, Sara Price entered the SCORE Trophy Truck Spec class and would then become a dominant driver during the 2019 season to win the Class Championship. “Last year was a learning curve and we had a lot of truck issues and that put us back,” said Price. “But this year, we had an amazing truck and not many mechanical issues throughout the season.” Throughout the 2019 SCORE World Desert Championship season, she finished second in every race, and although Price would have wanted to finish first, her consistency and determination are what stood out to SCORE fans and is what ultimately led to her championship season. “We definitely would have loved to have won a race or two this season, and we came close several times,” said Price. “But despite that, we did our best this year and ended up in second place every time. Compared to last year, we paid more attention and were slower in the speed-zones to avoid any penalties. Other than that, we did great and if we had to improve on anything, perhaps our pits could be faster, but we have an amazing crew and stuck to our plan and we won the championship.” The season wasn’t without its ups and downs for Price, who said she had a lot of confidence going into the season and stuck with the team’s plan. “Everything was different this year,” said Price. “Each of the courses had their characteristics that we had to adapt to. At the SCORE San Felipe 250, the pounding of the whoops was the hardest section and it was brutal. But the truck stayed together and we averaged a winning speed but came up a little short for the win.” During the Lucerna SCORE Baja 400, the competition began to set in with Price and other TT Spec racers but she still managed to deal with a tough course that threw her a new obstacle she learned to deal with. “At the 400, I encountered the most dust in a race ever,” she said. “I come from motocross and am used to dust, but in this race, I couldn’t see a thing ahead of me and at one point, I had to stop to let the dust clear. Fortunately, we kept a good pace and again finished a little short for the win.” When it came time for the 51st SCORE Baja 500, Price and her team were wanting a win and realized she was in contention for a class championship. “We were determined to do well in this race and get as many points as possible,” said Price. “ We fought hard to the very end and didn’t let-off. Again we fell short of the win, but we were happy with the result.” By the time Price entered the 52nd BFGoodrich Tires SCORE Baja 1000 Presented by 4 Wheel Parts, she knew she had to finish in the top three to take the class championship. “I had never been on this course and it was a lot of learning new areas of Baja,” said Price. “The technical sections were tough but I like those. I had also wanted to Ironwoman the race and going into it, I wasn’t sure if I could, but I wasn’t going to give up. I found it wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be and I didn’t feel like I fell off the pace. I was crazy focused and I look forward to possibly doing it again. What I did realize is the amount of abuse it takes on your body to drive the entire race yourself. I went straight from the race to do some of my stunt jobs and it was very hard on my body.” With her popularity and driving skills on the rise, Sara Price has only begun to demonstrate what she’s capable of, and already has a huge fan-base that is inspired by her accomplishments this year. “I love Baja and ever since I got into racing off-road, I had always dreamed of being a Baja champion of some sort,” said Price. “It’s amazing that I’ve had the chance to do that and am very appreciative of my team, sponsors, and the amazing fans that follow me in the off-road and the stunt world too.”
