28 WINTER 2020 kitchens nshoremag.com/nshorehome/ The kitchen windows open to a bar area for easy serving. taking space from a coat closet in the hallway. The cabinet features leaded-glass windows and provides space to display dishes, glass- ware, and serving pieces. "She just loves that piece, and I do too," says Hanson. "With the leaded glass doors and the lighting inside, it's such a showpiece." The cabinet is one reason that the room is now far more for- mal than it used to be. Other more upscale elements include inset beaded cabinetry by Mouser Cabinetry, Rococo quartz counter- tops by LG Viatera in a pale eggshell color with gray marbling, and classic ribbed glass pendant lights from Pottery Barn. The understated finishes and stark white coloring add to a sense of formality and class. "It just is a total transformation, really, from the way it used to be," says Hanson. "Not only in appearance—finishes and all that— but the layout is so much better.… This kitchen feels like a perfect size to me; it's big enough, but not so huge that you get lost in there. I feel like everything fits just nicely." Elaine and Rich feel that getting their "dream" kitchen was worth the years-long wait. If they had done it years before, they would have ended up with a much simpler and still-too-small kitchen. The room they've been able to design instead is capacious, serene, light-filled, and functional. "It's very calming," says Hanson. "It's very easy to be in the room." And more important, it's easy to cook and entertain—to enjoy the company of friends and family in a beautiful, modern kitchen that really works. heartwoodkitchen.com
