A fter living in their c. 1907 Colonial Revival for six years, Jennifer Schley-Johnson and her husband decided it was time to update their main living spaces. "It's a big house with a lot of rooms," explains Jennifer of their downtown Beverly abode. "After living here for a couple years, we knew we wanted to better connect the kitchen with its surround- ings. Also, there was no mudroom to speak of, no functional place for coats and shoes." The couple hired Sashya Thind Fernandes, principal of Boston-based iD8 Design Studio, for her expertise in remodeling, interior architecture, and custom furnish- ings. "I enjoy decorating, but we knew we needed a professional to guide the space planning," says Schley- Johnson, whose children are now ages six and nine. "I really needed someone to think outside the box and problem-solve to help connect the various zones around the kitchen and establish better flow."
