18 THE WOLVERINE MARCH 2020 BY JOHN BORTON F ebruary's National Sign- ing Day produced as much drama for Michigan's re- cruiting efforts as an episode of "Holiday Baking Championship." And that's okay, as far as the Wol- verines are concerned. When you've locked up a 23-man, national top- 10 class before Christmas, anything else represents frosting on the cake (though the group did go from No. 10 in December to No. 11 after the rankings finalized in February). The traditional first Wednesday of February came and went quietly in Ann Arbor, thanks to the relatively new NCAA rule allowing early sign- ings for programs across the nation. For the second consecutive year, Michigan took full advantage of De- cember's open door. Jim Harbaugh and his crew brought in a class that's both signifi- cant in talent and imbued with en- ergy and motivation. Just what the head coach ordered. Harbaugh, who has moved away from the traditional signing day press conferences, talked about the class at length on his own "Attack Each Day" podcast and Michigan's "In The Trenches" podcast, hosted by Jon Jansen.
