1969 YEAR OPENED RINK BREAKDOWN But locals aren't the facility's only clientele —not by a longshot. In its 50-plus years of existence, Snoopy's Home Ice has attracted visitors from across the world. "People come because it's Snoopy's home," Huntsinger said. "People know this is where (Schulz) hung out. It was a place he loved." Oh, Hockey With the charm of the Peanuts gang enveloping this facility, people have come to Snoopy's Home Ice not only to see Schulz's cre- ation but to also hit the puck around and play some hockey. One of the times the rink sees its most visitors from around the world is during the Snoopy's Senior World Hockey Tournament. Sixty-four teams hit the ice in Sonoma Valley and compete for one week in a hockey tournament centered around the rink and its history. The sport of hockey in general has seen an uptick in participa- tion with the emergence of three National Hockey League teams. 16 / MARCH.APRIL.2020 USICERINKS.COM Arena was built by Peanuts comic strip cre- ator Charles M.
