NGB News USA Hockey & U.S. Figure Skating , The 15th annual Labatt Blue USA Hockey Pond Hockey National Championship wrapped up on February 9 with 19 teams bringing home trophies. Due to weather conditions, the three- day event was held at the World Championship Derby Complex in Eagle River, WI. "We were obviously disappointed that Mother Nature didn't cooperate with us, but the good news was that we were able to move the tournament to another great outdoor venue in the World Championship Derby Complex," said Ashley Bevan, Senior Director of Adult Hockey for USA Hockey. "This signature event sells out in minutes every year and it was a huge success." 260 teams participated in this year's event. USA Hockey used the same format for its rink setup this year as it did in 2015. The 24 rinks were split into three quadrants throughout the derby complex. Twelve rinks on each side separated by the Blue Zone, a spot in the expo hall where participants could listen to a live band and enjoy a few frosty beverages provided by the tournament sponsor. The pond hockey tournament is the USA Hockey Adult Department's largest event each year, requiring the organization to pour its resources into the event so it will go off without hitch. But it wouldn't be so successful each year if it wasn't for everyone outside USA Hockey that put in so much time and effort. "We can't thank the community of Eagle River and all of the volunteers enough for everything they do for us on the lead up and while we are here," said Ashley Bevan. The 16th Annual Labatt Blue USA Hockey Pond Hockey National Championship will take place February 5-7, 2021. Online registration will open mid-summer 2020 at usahockey.com. 20 / MARCH.APRIL.2020 USICERINKS.COM 15th Annual Pond Hockey Perseveres , The Skating Director Program is designed for skating directors, club board members, rink managers and coaches looking for the opportunity to strengthen their skills as program administrators in order to take their program to the next level.
