56 / MARCH.APRIL.2020 USICERINKS.COM u.s. ice rink NEWS Updates from the U.S. Ice Rink Association U.S. Figure Skating This past January, John Monte- leone, U.S. Ice Rinks Director of Education, served as the lead ice technician for the 2020 Toyota U.S. Figure Skating Championships held at the Greensboro Coliseum Complex in Greensboro, N.C. In February, John followed that up as the lead ice technician for the 2020 U.S. Figure Skating Synchronized Skating Championships held at the Dunkin' Donuts Center in Providence, R.I. USA Hockey Also during the month of February, Monteleone led the volunteer ice maintenance crew during the 15th annual Labatt Blue/USA Hockey Pond Hockey Champi- onship in Eagle River, Wis. Returning ice crew members, Brandon Klement, Cory Portner, Brian Scheid, and Brandon Koontz were joined by first timer, Mat Hennen. This was the 14th year that U.S. Ice Rinks staff have supported the ice operations component of this event. , Individuals who have been awarded the Certified Ice Technician (CIT) professional designation by U.S. Ice Rinks are required to recertify every five years from the year they originally achieved the CIT. In addition, CIT's must also renew their membership each year with U.S. Ice Rinks, to maintain their CIT designation. Early 2020 Events Keep U.S. Ice Rink Association Staff Busy CIT Class of 2015— It's Time to Recertify! Currently there are two ways for individuals to recertify their CIT designation in 2020: 1. Successfully complete the written CIT recertification exam at the North American Rink Conference and Expo (NARCE), May 19-22 in Buffalo, N.Y. 2. Successfully complete the written CIT Recertification Exam, offered at any Regional Training Program location. 2020 Regional Training Program locations will be available in mid- March at usicerinks.com/education. Online self-study materials will be available to individuals that register to take the CIT Recertification exam.
