A HEATED EXCHANGE Understanding The Unique Methods For Managing Heat In Off-Road Vehicles By Dan Sanchez Four-wheeling across the desert, either for fun or competition, usually requires outfitting your vehicle with larger tires, performance shocks, LED lighting, recovery tools, and more. While many of us are quick to add these items, thermal management upgrades are typically not high on the list until it’s too late. The unfortunate aspect to off-roading is contending with high ambient temperatures, as well as the build-up of heat from engine, drivetrain, brakes, steering, and other components that occur while driving fast across flat lake beds, or while crawling slowly over rocky terrain. From coolants, to fans and heat reflecting products, there are many ways that can help your vehicle deal with heat related issues. We spoke with several industry experts to help us understand how each of these work and how new technologies are changing the way we can upgrade our vehicles to manage heat more efficiently.
