Making the Rounds Spreading the news of sugar producers' hard work for the consuming public FROM THE ASA By Phillip Hayes | Director of Media Relations At the AmericAn SugAr AlliAnce, we Are proud to bAck AmericA'S cAne And beet producerS And fight to protect A Strong SugAr policy on cApitol hill. Most of the time our work has us in Washington, D.C. But earlier this year, ASA staff loaded up our suitcases for trips to some of the most influential agricultural gatherings in the country. We traveled to Texas for both the American Farm Bureau Federation Convention & Trade Show and for Commodity Classic. Then on to Savannah, Ga., the host city for this year's National Farmers Union Convention. Since, at the time of this writing, life has changed drastically due to the spread of the COVID-19 virus, it is important to note that these conventions were held before health and public safety concerns put a temporary stop to large gatherings. ASA makes it a point every year to be a visible presence at these conventions. Not only do they represent an opportunity to educate attendees about the value of America's no-cost sugar policy, but they allow sugar producers to strengthen coalitions across commodities in support of robust farm policies. We were thankful to be joined this year by several growers at the Texas events, including American Sugarbeet America's no-cost sugar policy ensures that consumers and manufacturers have a reliable supply of affordable, high-quality and sustainably produced sugar. 20 Sugar Producer MAY 2020
