Around the Vine U Maine Updates Potato Website The University of Maine Cooperative Extension has recently updated its website on potato production. Updated information is available on seed treatment, pest management (weeds, insects and disease), potato storage disinfestations, treating potatoes going into storage and organic potatoes. While some of the information is specific for potato production on the eastern coast, some can be adapted to our region. Visit http://www.umaine.edu/umext/ potatoprogram/pest_control_guide.htm. TITAN EXPANDS GOODYEAR FARM TIRE OPTITRAC LINE QUINCY, Ill.—Goodyear Farm Tires made by Titan Tire Corporation has expanded its OPTITRAC line of radial agricultural farm tires. The OPTITRAC design features a self-cleaning tread action and an improved mold shape that helps create a smoother ride. A 45-degree tread lug angle promotes more open space on the lugs for better cleaning and improved traction—especially on soft, moist soil. The lug configuration and mold shape was modified, helping to enhance handling and performance in the field and on the road. These design features also result in a smoother ride, thereby reducing operator fatigue. OPTITRAC is ideal for heavy, wet soil conditions and is available in extra-wide flotation sizes for superior traction. Sizes include a DT800 for narrow row crops, DT806 (85 aspect ratio), DT812 (70 aspect ratio), DT818 (65 aspect ratio), DT824 in larger volume 540 to 800 mm widths and a DT830 super large volume in 900 mm and- up widths. Small, solar-powered monitoring stations transmit data in this system that can be accessed via the web or phone. These stations can monitor pivot direction and travel, soil moisture, pumps, weather, disease modeling and/or evapo- transpiration. CPS will even install and uninstall the systems and they can be rented or purchased through a lease- option. A demo is available on www. precisionagrilab.com/data/sample.
