22 / JULY.AUGUST.2020 USICERINKS.COM u.s. ice rink NEWS Updates from the United States Ice Rink Association Live webinars continue for members and the industry during COVID-19 The United States Ice Rink Association began offering weekly live informational webinars using the Zoom platform for its members to participate in shortly after rinks started closing due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In addition, U.S. Ice Rinks has hosted several webinars for the Minnesota Ice Arena Managers Associa- tion (MIAMA), Northeast Ice Skating Managers Association (NEISMA) and Wisconsin Ice Arena Management Association (WIAMA) members. To date, more than 4,600 people have either participated in the webinars or viewed the recordings online. Instructor-led online courses to continue into the summer & fall In the spring, the United States Ice Rink Association held its first-ever courses online in a live instructor-led format. The online Operations & Risk Management (ORM) and Human Re- source Management (HRM) courses were both well received and exceeded the expectations of the 31 students that participated. With the success of those courses, the Programming, Marketing & Promotions (PMP) course will be offered in the same format during the month of July. U.S. Ice Rink Association staff and instructors are currently working on making additional courses available online later in the summer and early fall. 2020 Virtual NARCE a success Although the 2020 North American Rink Conference and Expo (NARCE) was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the event lived on virtually. During the third week of May, several live webinars were held by NARCE sponsors for the individu- als that had registered to attend the event in Buffalo, N.Y. More than 650 people participated in the webinars and virtual net- working social held on the evening of May 20.
