ON DECK Though the future of fall indoors and many other year-end championships has been iffy over the last several months, with several canceling outright, some of the competitions have found a new home. AN APP YOU CAN USE SHOWASSIST ShowAssist launched in July with a simple but important mission: to make connections between people. The short-term hiring app connects grooms, braiders, body clippers and other experienced support staff with people seeking those services at U.S. Equestrian Federation- and Equestrian Canada-rated competitions. The mother-daughter team who founded the app—Deidre McAuley- Hayes, an intellectual property attorney, and Malachi Hinton, an amateur jumper rider—had the product well underway before the COVID-19 pandemic began, but they recognize the app has additional importance now for helping those who might have been without work after a long hiatus from competitions. The app doesn't require a subscription, and it is free to post jobs and to apply for work. Contactless payments are scheduled to be released after completion of a job.
