W e turned 20 in August! It seems like it was just yesterday that I took over the reins of what was formerly Serving The American Rinks, and it's been a heck of a ride! A special thank you is extended to our founding members, USA Hockey and U.S. Figure Skating. Both of these National Governing Bodies understood then just how vital the growth and sustainability of the ice rink industry is to the continued growth of their respective sports. Without their continued support, we would not be able to meet our mission or achieve our goals. You can read more about how we got our start in this issue on pages 44-46. We recognize for most, 2020 has been a rough year for business across the U.S.; but for us, not that it was without challenges, it rounded out our current four-year strategic plan. Some of the notable initiatives were: our organization rebranding, the development and launch of a new website which includes a member self-service portal, an electronic RINK Magazine issue archive and online classified ads for our members. In addition, we overhauled our Certified Ice Technician (CIT) Recertification process, updated all of our Certified Rink Administrator (CRA) course materials, offered numerous informational and educational webinars for our members, launched instructor-led online training courses, and expanded our social media presence to provide our members more opportunities to engage with our staff and network with each other. Our newly-elected Board of Directors and Officers has started the process of creating a new four-year plan that will focus on providing our members more value from their membership through the development of new resources, expanded professional development programs and increased networking opportunities. All the best to you and yours, — Jeff Theiler, Chief Operating Officer, United States Ice Rink Association Opening ADDRESS Welcome from Jeff Theiler 16 / SEPTEMBER.OCTOBER.2020 USICERINKS.COM Happy 20th Birthday to Us!
