USICERINKS.COM SEPTEMBER.OCTOBER.2020 / 23 Continued growth As the Crossover staff was in their final stretch of preparing to open, the Coronavirus pandemic hit and caused them to have to adjust. But unlike other facilities across the country, the Crossover staff had time to work on how they were going to handle new restrictions before opening the doors. "We had a lot of time to work out the kinks and establish protocols," Raya said. "We also had the Northcross location as a test to see how things would work." The Crossover facility is now open to the public but at a much lower capacity than what was expected. Despite that, Raya and others are happy with how things have gone so far and have their eyes on further expansion. Raya said the hope is to include those in the art community with co-working space along with things such as a private or char- ter school. This all aligns with the original mission of this facility and its goal to be well-rounded. But at Raya's heart is hockey. He is still the kid who grew up in the northeast going to frozen ponds and indoor ice are- nas. He's involved with the Austin hockey community still and is excited to see the growth in all ice sports in Austin, includ- ing hockey. "I have some serious perspective in how this works being a coach and seeing the growth here," Raya said. "We're excited to see the growth here. At one point, I know we're going to see an Auston Matthews come out of this area." J apply.gogc.com Make the play... with financing that's right for your rink.
