READY FOR THE CHALLENGE The Legend, “Mr. BaJa” Larry Roeseler Returns To Race In the SCORE Trophy Truck Class By Dan Sanchez Winning one of the races in the 2020 SCORE World Desert Championship just got much harder, now that Larry Roeseler is back in the SCORE Trophy Truck division. The man is not only a legendary racer on two or four-wheels, but he’s also won the SCORE Baja 500 more than anyone else (11 times Overall). This season, Roeseler teamed up with Cantina Racing, and with Baja Jerky as a sponsor, he’s ready to add a 12th Overall win to his already untouchable record. “The folks at Baja Jerkey have followed my career and the opportunity came up for them to distribute their product in Mexico, so it all fit together,” says Roeseler. “They are a new face to the sport but are long-time fans of it.” With an ID Design SCORE Trophy Truck, Roeseler says he’s physically and mentally up for racing again in Baja. Despite the new dates for the start of the season at this year’s 52nd BFGoodrich Tires SCORE Baja 500, Roeseler knows the Baja desert only too well. “My race strategy is to be consistent and make a strong run,” he says. “I’m always patient, I don’t care if I quality first or 10th. The course for the SCORE Baja 500 will be all desert and it’s challenging but also good for me as I like that more.” Roeseler will cause the current list of fast veterans in the class some concern. With the SCORE Baja 500 an important race for starting position for the SCORE Baja 1000, it will be one of the most competitive races in this class. “SCORE Trophy Trucks run as a brisker pace for me,” he says. “This first race of the SCORE season will be competitive with six or seven guys that you can bank on to possibly win the race. I believe it will be a cat and mouse game where the leader needs to stay far enough in front to win.” Roeseler of course wants to add a 12th SCORE Baja 500 Overall win to his record, but he will also be cheering for Luke McMillin at this race. “Luke and I will be teaming up for the SCORE Baja 1000, so naturally I want him to finish in a top position,” says Roeseler. “Once this season is over, I’ll be looking forward to running the full SCORE season next year.” SJ
