NORTHSHOREMAG.COM 8 OCTOBER 2020 PHOTOGRAPHS, TOP TO BOTTOM BY PETER VANDERWALKER, COURTESY OF FKM BRANDS, COURTESY OF THE TRUSTEES, AND BY KINDRA CLINEFF I think I say this every issue, but this one may be my favorite issue of the year. We call it our Movers & Shakers Issue, and each year, I am in awe of the leaders serving our communities in so many different ways, from healthcare professionals keeping us safe during the pandemic to scientists analyzing solutions to combat the threat of climate change to nonprofit organizations offering services for those in need to developers providing much- needed jobs in our towns. ere are so many stories to tell about these serving leaders, and I am thrilled to share these stories with you in the following pages. We had the pleasure and good fortune to sit down with Dr. David Longworth, chair of Beth Israel Lahey Health Primary Care and president of Lahey Hospital & Medical Center. He has been working tirelessly to ensure the patients of Lahey continue to get the best care during the pandemic. He understands that good leadership is about integrity, honesty, and transparency. Tom O'Shea, program director for Coast & Natural Resources for the Trustees of Reservations, which protects 120 miles of shoreline in Massachusetts, breaks down the Trustees' inaugural State of the Coast report, an assessment of climate change impacts on the 13 coastal towns from Salisbury to Swampscott. The data is sobering; however, there are leaders in our coastal communities looking at ways to mitigate flooding and coastline erosion. We also visit three developers on the North Shore—Joe Faro, Sal Lupoli, and Sarah Barnat—who are not only creating amazing places to live, work, and play but also creating jobs for hundreds of people on the North Shore and beyond. We are excited to highlight the new North Shore NAACP charter, founded by a group of citizens concerned over systemic racism in our country. With the guidance of Juan Cofield, president of the New England Area Conference they will take action in support of the key issues determined by the national organization, including educational achievement, economic sustainability, criminal justice reform, health care equity, and voting rights and political representation. They are looking to have more than 1,000 members by December. You can visit northshoremanaacp.com to download an application to join. We hope you enjoy these amazing stories of serving leaders in our community. Let us know who is a serving leader in your community. Cheers, Nancy E.
