He moved to Idaho Falls in 1939, where he graduated from Idaho Falls High School. After finishing school, John joined the army, serving until the end of World War II. In 1946, he started working for Chesbro Music Company, an occupation he enjoyed until his retirement. His hobbies include collecting firearms and painting.
