Mid-America Trucking Show roundup Kenworth, Peterbilt unveil vocational models Paccar's Kenworth and Peterbilt divisions each showcased new vocational trucks. Kenworth's severe-duty T880 is like the company's T800 model, but with a more utilitarian cab and dash layout – mirroring the interior comforts of the T680 line. Peterbilt's Model 567 is based on last year's Peterbilt Model 579. Both trucks are available in two BBC configurations – 121 and 115 inches – in a daycab or with a selection of detachable sleeper configurations. Three sleeper sizes are available – 44-, 70- and 80-inch. Other features include a newly designed aluminum cab, a Metton hood designed to absorb impact, improved windshield visibility and a lighter-but-stiffer chassis design. Routing improvements to the chassis system include new air and fuel hard lines and the separation of key air, fuel, diesel exhaust fluid and electrical system routings to simplify service work. Kenworth's severe-duty T880 takes the rugged severe-duty side of its T800 model and combines it with the interior comforts of its T680. Peterbilt's Model 567 has 'a rugged design and versatile configuration' along with 'enhanced visibility and a new spacious interior,' says Peterbilt General Manager Bill Kozek. Freightliner releases exercise system Freightliner announced an in-cab workout system designed for installation onto existing tether points in Cascadia and Coronado models. Freightliner collaborated with Rolling Strong to design and implement the system – the Freightliner In-cab Training System (FIT) – and it was made to offer drivers a place to work out "in the comfort of their own cabs," said Freightliner engineer Dave Hames. The system – based upon resistance bands with changeable levels and three-grip handles – will be offered as an option on new trucks but can be purchased at Freightliner dealerships and online at RollingStrong.com and retrofitted. It also can be 22 retrofitted in Century Class and Columbia models. Freightliner also announced that orders for its 2014 model Cascadia Evolution – released last year – exceed 10,000. The truck was designed to be the company's most fuel-efficient model. Rolling Strong founder 'Trucker Trainer' Bob Perry demonstrates the Freightliner In-Cab Training System in a Cascadia sleeper. commercial carrier journal | may 2013 0513_Equipdept_Jack.indd 22 4/22/13 10:41 AM
