Rexburg: Successful, Safe & Full of Life Serving as the Mayor of the City of Rexburg has not only been an honor but a privilege. It is nice to see our wonderful valley start to climb out of the economic hardship that has plagued our country and the majority of our state. Rexburg is thriving and growing in all directions. This is exciting to be a part of. While the city continues to expand, I am pleased to see the morale of the community remain intact and the bonds between businesses, university and citizens continue to grow. We are truly an inspiration to neighboring cities not to mention our state and federal representatives. Our infrastructure is improving, as we work toward an unrestricted free flowing traffic system. Several changes in the downtown area have already made travel more efficient. New turning lanes on Main Street are working well and decreasing congestion. We are continually striving to work on adding additional street lighting and crosswalk improvements when and where they are needed. The City has teamed up with BYU-Idaho to implement several new Rectangle Rapid Flashing Beacons around town to ensure safe pedestrian travel. Safety is first and foremost 38  East Idaho Business  REXBURG  2013 when it comes to the citizens of our delightful community. Rexburg Rapids is preparing for its best season yet. Patrons are already calling in to make their reservations for shelters and parties and they are filling up fast. This summer we are trying something new, a community garden. This will be at the Riverside Park and allow citizens who may not have the area at their residence, to cultivate and harvest a garden, the chance to take part in producing fruits and vegetables for their family. I have high hopes for this project and cannot wait to see the talented gardeners emerge and produce a wonderful bounty. Rexburg Recycling has painted the town blue allowing us to "go green." The City of Rexburg has teamed up with BYU-I's recycling center and provided the citizens with a reliable curbside program that is well into its first year. Commercial recycling is coming in stages and is showing promising results. The more recyclables that we can keep out of our landfills the better we all will be. The Art's Council has done a great job and making sure that the Romance Theatre and the Tabernacle are scheduled with exciting activities. Many of the events held at these two incredible locations are family oriented and one of a kind. We are truly blessed to have the access to these restored historical facilities. The City of Rexburg is excited to join in the celebration of Madison County turning 100 years old. There will be several activities over the year to honor the history of Madison County. I am looking forward to admiring the detail going into the Centennial Park located at the Madison County Courthouse. Rexburg has so much to offer, I find myself continually finding something new that draws my amazement. Whether it is the people, businesses or tranquil ambiance, I encourage you to visit Rexburg yourself and enjoy the wonderful atmosphere I am proud to call my home. Richard Woodland Mayor of Rexburg
