26 Sugar Producer NOVEMBER/DECEMBER 2020 Running the Gamut SESVanderHave offers great genetics for growers in any environment. SESVanderHave develops and delivers competitive sugarbeet seed in many markets around the world. In the U.S., the company focuses on the needs of growers in each production region. Research and testing are also incorporated to evaluate new genetics to meet the local demands. Reviewing the various regions in North America, let's take a look at some of the local opportunities SESVanderHave provides: California Spreckels Sugar Company growers have seen SV varieties rise to the top of official trials the last few years, and are seeing the same results in their fields. SV 602TT provides excellent early sugar and yield and still has sufficient heat tolerance to shine from April through the end of June. Minn-Dak Minn-Dak Farmers Cooperative growers have been very happy with the SV performance in their fields, which often reflects what they see in the official trial results. SV 762 continues to shine in many areas, with exceptional Cercospora tolerance and good tolerance to both Aphanomyces and Rhizoctonia. This workhorse variety only takes a backseat to the higher-yielding SV 655, which is excellent in both RSA and RST. Growers have said it's nice to have that one-two punch of great performance in difficult fields and the yield potential in those home run fields. SMBSC Growers in the Southern Minnesota Beet Sugar Cooperative region face the toughest combined Cercospora, Rhizoctonia and Aphanomyces challenges in the U.S. Research in the SMBSC growing region has shown consistent performance in these difficult fields with SV 863 and SV 862. Reviewing the extensive data (proprietary trials, OVT trials, strip trials and grower experiences), the foundation of excellent Cercospora tolerance combined with good Independent SV sugarbeet seed dealer Steve Snyder inspects a new variety developed for the Western Sugar North region. SV 704 offers Cercospora-resistant germplasm for the Minn-Dak region.
