44 / NOVEMBER.DECEMBER.2020 USICERINKS.COM // Tell us a little bit about yourself. I grew up in Portland, Maine and have lived in Maine most of my life. My skat- ing/hockey career consisted of a clinic run by Travis Roy's dad. My skating skills were nothing to talk about, and my career on the ice was short lived. I went to Colby College in Waterville, Maine, and then graduated from Syracuse University College of Law. For the last 30+ years, I have practiced law at a small office 10 minutes north of Portland. I have a general practice, however, much of the work revolves around real estate. When I'm not working, I can be found golfing, playing tennis or work- ing with a non-profit organization. In addition to being President of U.S. Ice Rink Association, I am chair of the U.S. Figure Skating SafeSport Committee, the National Vice Chair of Rules and Policies for USFS's Membership Committee, president of a California foundation that gives money for can- cer research and education, and a board member of Family Ice Center in Falmouth, Maine. Oh, and my children were also active on the ice. My daughter, Chloe, started in a Learn to Skate program with a bike helmet on and became an accomplished ice dancer who competed in France for Team USA. My son, Nate, loved to play hockey. He started in a local USA Hockey program and was on the High School State Championship team his senior year. I was a rink dad who drove them to rinks around New England and flew with Chloe to training sessions at the University of Delaware. Ice sports allowed me to spend hours of quality time with my kids, and I loved doing it. // It's pretty clear U.S. Figure Skating plays a large role in your life. What got you started with them? It started when Chloe decided to become a member of the local figure skating club. She stayed in the sport, earned a gold medal at Novice Dance, and was named a member of Team USA. I also stayed in the sport. Almost immediately after joining the figure skating club, I was asked to be the treasurer. After one year, I was voted in as the president—a role that I held for 14 years. As president, I attended club education programs, which is when I met USFS senior director of membership Susi Wehrli McLaughlin, who became a valuable resource during my time as president. Susi then served as a resource during my time as president. I then became the Eastern Sectional Vice Chair of Membership for USFS, followed by Chair of the Membership Committee, then the Membership Development Group Coordinator which was a position on USFS' Board of Directors, and now I'm the Chair of the SafeSport Committee. I've also presented at approximately 50 club education seminars and webinars CEnter ice Q&A with a rink professional ALAN WOLF Falmouth, Maine U.S. Ice Rink Association President ICE SPORTS ALLOWED ME TO SPEND HOURS OF QUALITY TIME WITH MY KIDS, AND I LOVED DOING IT.
