DECEMBER 2020 21 Brian was named the MAC Hermann Tro- phy winner as the nation's top player, the first in program history. 2014 Soccer — Advanced to the NCAA championship match for the first time in program history and posted a 23-3 mark on the season. Brian was named the MAC Hermann Trophy winner for the second consecutive season. 2014 Tennis — Claimed the first ACC championship in program history and ad- vanced to the Elite Eight for the first time, while posting a 24-6 record. Danielle Col- lins won the NCAA singles championship — the first UVA player to do so — and was named the Most Valuable Player of the ACC Tournament. 2015 Golf — Took home the ACC cham- pionship with the lowest team score in program history with a tally of 837 that was 27 strokes under par. 2016 Swimming & Diving — Turned in a fifth-place finish at the NCAA Cham- pionships, marking the highest showing ever by the program with 264 points. The 264 points were the most ever scored by Virginia at the NCAA Championships. In addition, Leah Smith won a pair of indi- vidual national titles. Top Performers BASKETBALL Donna Holt (1985-88) — She is the all- time ACC leader in steals (529) and was the first All-America selection in program history. She was a two-time Kodak All- American in 1987 and 1988. Wendy Palmer (1993-96) — She tal- lied 58 double-doubles in her career (126 games) and is ninth all time in the ACC for rebounding (1,221). She was a two-time Kodak All-America selection, a three-time All-ACC choice and two-time ACC Player of the Year honoree. Dawn Staley (1989-92) — A two-time Naismith Player of the Year, she was also a two-time ACC Player of the Year and claimed the Broderick Cup (now the Honda Sports Award) in 1991. She was a three-time Kodak All-America honoree and four-time All-ACC selection, and notched the only two triple-doubles in program history. Monica Wright (2007-10) — The all- time leading scorer in program history with 2,540 points, she was named the ACC Player of the Year in 2010 and also earned All-America honors that season. She was a three-time All-ACC selection. She ranks fourth all time in the ACC for points scored and had 28 games of 25 points or more in her career. CROSS COUNTRY Margaret Groos (1977-80) — The two- time All-American was the 1978 ACC champion and won the 1979 AAU na- tional championship. She went on to win the Pittsburgh Marathon twice and ran in the 1988 Olympics. Lesley Welch (1980-83) — A two-time All-America selection, she finished fifth at the 1981 NCAA Championships as a freshman to help Virginia claim its first na- tional title. She then finished first in 1982 to become the first individual national champion for the Cavaliers, who claimed back-to-back NCAA crowns. She won the Broderick Award (now the Honda Sports Award) for the 1982-83 academic year. GOLF Brittany Altomare (2010-13) — The 2013 ACC champion was the first first- team All-American in program history. She was also a four-time All-ACC selection. FIELD HOCKEY Peggy Boutilier (1995-98) — Named the 1999 NCAA Woman of the Year and an NCAA Postgraduate Scholar, she was a two-sport athlete at Virginia. She was a three-time All-Region selection. Paige Selenski (2008-12) — Helped lead the Cavaliers to a pair of Final Four ap- pearances and was ranked among the top 10 in the NCAA for points (238) and goals (100) when she graduated. She is the program leader in points and second all time in goals.
