Tara Vittese (2014-17) — She was a three-time National Player of the Year, joining Ralph Sampson as the only Vir- ginia athletes to achieve that feat. She was also a four-time All-American and helped UVA claim the 2016 ACC title. LACROSSE Amy Appelt (2002-05) — She was the 2004 Tewaaraton Trophy winner, the first in program history. She led the NCAA in scoring in three of her four seasons with the Cavaliers and helped UVA claim the 2004 NCAA championship. She won the Honda Sports Award for lacrosse in 2004, and also is the career leader in goals at UVA with 258. Cherie Greer (1991-94) — She led the NCAA in points in 1994 and is still 16th all time in NCAA history for career ground balls (247). The three-time All-American, who helped Virginia claim the 1991 and 1993 NCAA championships, went on to be a four-time member of the U.S. World Cup Team. ROWING Kristine O'Brien (2010-13) — A three- time All-ACC honoree and All-American, she was a two-time NCAA champion that helped the Cavaliers claim the team titles in 2010 and 2012. She was also a 2015 world champion. SOCCER Morgan Brian (2011-14) — A two-time MAC Hermann Trophy winner as the Na- tional Player of the Year, she helped the Cavaliers advance to back-to-back College Cups and the finals of the NCAA Cham- pionship for the first time in 2014. She went on to be a two-time World Cup champion and a member of the 2016 Olympic team. She is second all time in assists at UVA (43). Angela Hucles (1996-99) — She is sec- ond all time in Virginia history for goals scored (59) and points (138), and is the all-time leader in game-winning goals (19). The two-time All-American went on to be a member of two World Cup teams that claimed bronze medals and two gold medal Olympic teams. Becky Sauerbrunn (2003-07) — The 2007 ACC Defensive Player of the Year was a three-time All-American. She has been a member of three World Cup teams, in- cluding two that won the championship, and a member of two Olympic teams, in- cluding the 2012 gold medal winners. SOFTBALL Kristen Dennis (1999-2002) — She is the only two-time All-American in pro- gram history after claiming the honor in 2001 and 2002. She was the 2002 ACC Player of the Year and is the program record holder in doubles and slugging percentage. She was also named to the ACC 50th Anniversary Team. SWIMMING & DIVING Cara Lane (2000-03) — She was a two- time NCAA champion, becoming the pro- gram's first individual title winner in 2000 and adding another one in 2001. Leah Smith (2014-17) — A four-time NCAA champion after claiming two titles each in 2015 and 2016, she went on to be a gold medalist at the 2016 Olympics. Melanie Valerio (1988-91) — She was the program's first Olympic gold medalist at the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta. She was a 17-time All-American as a Cavalier. TENNIS Danielle Collins (2014-16) — A two-time NCAA singles champion (2014, 2016), she is only the seventh player to ever claim multiple NCAA singles titles and is the only one to do so from the ACC. A three-time All-American, she helped UVA claim the program's first ACC title in 2014 as the Cavaliers claimed back-to-back champi- onships. She was the 2016 Honda Sports Award winner for tennis and ITA National Senior Player of the Year. TRACK & FIELD Claire Forbes (1990-93) — She was a three-time ACC indoor champion and a two-time ACC Performer of the Year. Sonya Fridy (1984-87) — She was a three-time All-American at the 1987 NCAA Championships, and over the course of her career she claimed ACC titles in nine outdoor events and one indoor event. Stephanie Garcia (2008-11) — She was the USATF Juniors champion in the stee- plechase and the NCAA runner-up in the event at the 2011 NCAA Championships. Jordan Lavender (2012-15) — She was the 2014 ACC Championships MVP in both the indoor and outdoor seasons. Aileen O'Connor (1979-82) — She be- came the program's first champion in the 10,000 meters when she claimed the event at the 1981 AIAW Championships. Morgan Brian became just the eighth player ever to win back-to-back MAC Hermann Trophies as the National Player of the Year when she did so in 2013 and 2014.
