The serpent is choking the life out of itself, reflecting the nature of sin on the sinner. The sun - as the Light of the World - represents God the Father who is in loving conversation with Adam and Eve. The strongest rays form a cross, calling to mind the loving sacrifice of the Son. The Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil is more detailed and attractive than the other trees, the way sin often seems more enticing at first. God created a universe full of countless stars, planets and galaxies, but his greatest creation, done entirely out of love, is YOU. Three stars around earth represent the Holy Trinity, as well as Mary's perpetual virginity. The star patterns flanking earth are patterned after Our Lady of Guadalupe's mantle. The earth represents mankind after the fall, "poured out" of Eden and in our pilgrim state between Heaven and Hell. God's light still shines upon us, even outside Eden.
