6 GUESTLIST www.guestlist.net Issue 51 / 2013 Who the **** is CLUB vs CLUB Ronnie Scott? Tram & Social, Tooting 46-48 Mitcham Rd, London, SW17 9NA The Roxy, Oxford Street 3 Rathbone Pl, London W1T 1HJ events You have much to learn about music, young grasshopper. Since 1959 Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club has been presenting some of the finest musical talent in the land. Celebrities from all walks have life have visited the legendary club, becoming part of it's rich cultural heritage. '...But I don't listen to Jazz', you say. Think again, Jazz music incorporates rhythms and vibes that you hear in hip hop, funk soul and blues. Some of the best producers in the Hiphop, House and Drum & Bass games cite Jazz among their sources of inspiration. You are a jazz fan and you didn't even know it. Friday night's sold-out show featured Ronnie Scott's Blues Explosion. The lights were dim, the drinks were flowing and the artists were having just a good a time as the audience. Listeners were treated to mindblowing solos from the pianist, the trumpeter, saxophonist and rhythm guitarist Tony Remy. After the show, Tony told Guestlist that the ambience is the reason he loves playing at Ronnie's so much. "The layout and the lighting were changed 6 or 7 years ago now, and it's made the atmosphere so warm and comfortable in here", and we are inclined to agree! Having immediately fallen in love with the club and it's music, we hope to return soon to bring you more information on upcoming projects. You can get tickets to Ronnie Scott's from £20 from www.ronniescotts.co.uk events Surprisingly easy to miss, this bar/late night venue/abandoned tram shed is tucked away on the unassuming Tooting high street. The vast space offers Tuesday open mic nights, live music from emerging acts such as Black Tie White Noise and Jessica Carmody, and DJ sets 'til the early hours. Tram & Social also hosts daytime markets such as Wonderhill and craft shows. Weekly events are tailor-made for students. Panic! is Tuesday's offering, and the variety of indie classics makes it one of the most popular. On a Wednesday, special guest DJ's play a mixture of hip hop and dubstep, and so on and so forth. Don't You Want Me Baby? is Saturday night's show, and the price jumps from £1 (if you're on the mailing list) to £7 for essentially the same guitar-based playlist. Expect The Smiths, whatever night you go. DRINKS DRINKS You can chose from a reasonably priced, but not outrageously cheap, wine list which boasts an impressive selection, 20 in total. Spirits that are relatively rare in the area, such as Honey Jack and Purity Mad Goose, are stocked in abundance. Considering The Roxy is located in the heart of the West End, drinks are unfathomably cheap. After 10pm, deals such as 2 Kronenbergs for £3.50 and half-price cocktail pitchers (we seriously recommend 'Filthy Habit') are available. VIBES Attracting primarily students and spontaneous after-workers, The Roxy is always bustling with hedonistic youngsters seeking a good time. The exposed brickwork and subterranean feel is adequately sophisticated, yet downto-earth. Stupid dancing, pulling several hipsters in one night and falling on your face are all acceptable. There is plenty of space to lounge on bar stools or antique armchairs and chill out. The kitschy, eclectic decor is warm and inviting. Various DJs play a variety of nostalgic hip hop/ rnb and emerging indie talents which makes for a relaxed evening, so leave VIBES UNMISSABLE 24th May - Regulate - Hideout Festival PRE Party @ Fire CLUBRADAR TOP LIVE 21st May - Bleed presents...
