TECHNICAL UPDATE 33
the Groundsman June 2013
Maintenance matters
It is now the responsibility of Jason,
together with his team of two full-time
and three apprentice groundsmen, to
maintain the new surface. "This was
the first time I had been involved in the
construction of a pitch from the very
beginning and it has been a fantastic
learning experience for me and the
team," he says. "It is not often you get
to see a pitch being built layer by layer.
It has definitely given us a greater
understanding of what goes on
underneath the surface which will
hopefully help us to better manage
the pitch." l
CRL- Clive Richardson Limited - was the
main contractor, working closely with
sports turf consultancy TGMS, which
designed the project. Caddick
Construction managed the project and
the undersoil heating pipes were laid by
contractor, Ken Pryor & Sons.
