www.texasequineva.com • 5 MESSAGE FROM THE Point Whew…what an end to the winter Texas had this past February. We hope everyone survived the nasty winter weather unscathed; I have an increase in respect for our colleagues that practice anywhere north of the Red River during the winter. Personally, it was difficult for us to get to any clients, and it was even more difficult for clients to get to us. You needed a four-wheel drive vehicle just to drive through our parking lot. Just like any other natural disaster Texans encounter, I felt like the agriculture industry always steps up and lends a hand where needed. It was nice to see and experience local horse farms coming together whether it was having to haul water to each other, break ice on each other's water troughs, repair plumbing together, and offer to feed/clean stalls for one another. On a funny note, I have never seen people scramble for blankets like they did in February to put on their horses. I was over the beauty of the snow after 24 hours into the snow and ice storms. On a positive note, as of now, the TEVA educational committee and board of directors are planning on having the Summer Symposium in August 2021 at Horseshoe Bay Resort. All contracted speakers plan on being in attendance for in-person lectures. We hope most of you will feel comfortable enough to be present for an in-person meeting; it would be fantastic if we had a record-breaking symposium attendance. We are working with Horseshoe Bay Resort management at this moment to figure out logistics; it may look a little different, but our goal is to provide a family environment with exceptional continuing education and collegiality. For those of you who would prefer to do a virtual meeting or live-stream meeting, this will most likely be available. The TEVA board of directors has made this a priority for the 2021 meeting. Do not forget about the boutique meeting entitled "Bad Bellies and the Edge of the Cliff" to be held June 10–11, 2021, at the Texas A&M Hotel and Conference Center in College Station, Texas. If you like smaller crowds and more focused meetings, this is for you. Dr. Diana Hassel, DVM, PhD, DACVS, DACVECC, will be lecturing on colic and critical care. Platinum Practice sponsors receive a free meeting registration code. Lastly, do not forget to renew your membership. John Janicek, DVM, MS, DACVS DR. JOHN JANICEK PRESIDENT-ELECT 2021 Program Chair
