First-And-10 With Jeremy Gallon First Car That He Drove: "A 2006 Nissan Altima. It was for my birthday when I turned 18. My dad didn't want to get me a car at all, but I kept bugging him. I was so excited to get it, but it's long gone because I had too much trouble with it." First Major Sports Event He Attended: "When I was 12 years old, I went to a Tampa Bay Buccaneers game to see Warren Sapp play." First Concert He Went To: "Never been to one, but I'd love to see Meek Mill or Lil Wayne." First Autograph He Asked For: "Probably Warren Sapp. He was from my neighborhood. I was just finishing a city-league football practice, and he was playing basketball at the park. I just ran over to him with a piece of paper from my dad. I still have it." First Loss That Made You Cry: "It was in Pop Warner football. I played for the Blue Darters, and we were playing against a rival team. The game was tied the whole way, and they picked up a crazy fumble let them down. Then you get another one and another one, and it starts to grow and grow. Now you've got the building of something special. That's how it all starts." Gallon is less concerned with individual accomplishments and is instead locked in on team goals, including bringing other receivers along with him. He knows U-M can count on seniors Drew Dileo, Jeremy Jackson and Jordan Reynolds, but understands for Michigan to be its best, Gardner has to develop assurance with sophomore Amara Darboh, redshirt freshman Jehu Chesson and the three arriving rookies. and took it all the way in during the last few seconds. It broke my heart. I was devastated, but we came back the next year and beat them." First Wolverine Hero: "Desmond Howard. I've watched many clips of his from practices and games, and he was just awesome." First Jersey He Bought: "I had an Orlando Magic Tracy McGrady jersey. He was pretty solid back then." First Class He Took At Michigan: "Sports Management. It was about dealing with the media." First Team He Ever Played For: "Apopka Blue Darters." First Rival He Hated: "Edgewater, where [former U-M teammate] Mike Jones played because they were right down the road. They only beat us once in my career. We met each other first round of the playoffs, and it's win or go home, and we always sent them home." — Michael Spath "It can't just be me that Devin looks to because teams can do some things to take one guy away," Gallon said. "This is an entire team effort. It's my job to make sure the younger guys are on the same page with Devin, and to give them any advice they need, and any instruction. We need them. "We're not going to lose our chemistry. Devin knows he can count on me, and I know where he needs me to be to make a play, but two guys alone aren't going to get it done for our offense." Gallon, who may end up donning Desmond Howard's No. 21 legends jersey this season, has matured considerably since his freshman campaign. He has developed into a leader and a No. 1 receiver even if he hasn't grown an inch. "I was a shy kid, but a little crazy," Gallon said. "I probably didn't know what it was going to take, but I was always willing to work. "Early in my career, once I started practicing with Devin, we grew up, matured together and became a bigger part of this team. Now, we're both in a position to help our team win and to show the younger guys what they need to do to be successful." ❑ Gallon and quarterback Devin Gardner hooked up 31 times for 511 yards and three touchdowns in the final five games of the 2012 season. photo by lon horwedel The Wolverine 2013 Football Preview  ■ 99
