"If any one thirst, let
him come to me and
drink." (Jn 7:37)
Every journey begins
with a goodbye. Red,
the color associated
with martyrdom, is
here at the start of
the journey in the red
rocks and along the
path. It represents
that goodbye - that
death - to our lives
before Christ.
The Woman at the
Well attempts to
draw water with a
broken cistern while
Mary invites her to
follow the abundant
living water of Jesus
Christ that flows all
around her. How often
do we return to the
same dead well and
unquenching waters
of our own sins,
while the invitation
to follow Jesus is
all around us?
Mary, our guide and
intercessor along
the pilgrimage
through this life
and into Heaven.
As pilgrims we are
burdened by things
of this world. The
closer we are to
God, the "lighter"
the weight of the
world becomes.
The pilgrims further
along the trail
aren't burdened
by backpacks or
worldly worries.
"You are the light of
the world. A city set
on a mountain cannot
be hidden. Nor do
they light a lamp and
then put it under a
bushel basket; it is
set on a lampstand,
where it gives light to
all in the house. Just
so, your light must
shine before others,
that they may see
your good deeds and
glorify your heavenly
Father." (Mt 5:14-16)
