CONSOLIDATED VEHICLE CONVERTERS QUALITY • SERVICE • SATISFACTION Expect the Best 8 CONTINUED BEFORE YOU BLAME YOUR CONVERTER SUPPLIER Remanufacturers of torque converters can tell you hundreds of stories about their units being unjustly blamed for a problem, anything from shudder to a no move situation. You may indeed have a converter problem, no one is perfect, but many times a closer look other than converter is required. Many times a no move situation has been tracked to installation of wrong torque converter, shudder complaints can be caused by numerous other situations, some being air flow sensor, air intake leaks, bad crank shaft signals, dirty air filter, fuel systems, ignition system, incorrect fluid, use of stretched bolts / incorrect bolts, valve bore wear, valve timing issues or water intrusion. Many torque converters should be installed vertically to prevent immediate damage to internal o-rings or metal clad seals. Using the correct lubricant for a transmission, transfer case or axle assembly is critical to the repair and longevity of the unit. Automatic transmissions have a lube type that has specific additives to work correctly with the coefficient of friction desired for the type of clutch material in the unit. Failure to use specified lubrication will create many different types of shift concerns when there is absolutely nothing wrong with the transmission or torque converter. Make sure that you use the lube fill that is specified by the manufacturer, as when you do not, the clutch material will absorb the incorrect lube and it may take 1,000 miles of driving to get it back out after the right lube is used or it may require disassembly of the unit to replace the transmission frictions. resist the temptation to install "just any lube". The wrong lube will disappoint your customer and give you a comeback that nobody needs.
