SCORE Baja 1000 Voted As “Top Off-Road Motorsports Race” The SCORE Baja 1000 race was nominated again as one of the races for USA Today’s 10-Best Readers Choice Awards for Top Motorsports Race. In 2016 and 2017 the SCORE Baja 1000 won the top spot as USA Today’s Top Motorsports Event in North America. This year, 2021, was the fourth time the race was nominated to compete. After four weeks of voting, the SCORE Baja 1000 finished in third place overall from the 19 race event participants, but once again carried the top spot for the off-road races also included in this year’s voting poll. “SCORE International thanks all of its fans, racers and off-road enthusiasts who participated in the voting process,” says Jim Ryan SCORE Marketing Director. “The race is still the oldest, toughest, and most prestigious off-road race in the world, attracting racers from other motorsports to participate and challenge their skills.” 2022 SCORE Race Schedule Announced Mexico’s Baja California peninsula will host the four-race schedule for the 2022 SCORE World Desert Championship released by SCORE International. Featuring all four races in Baja California, Mexico, for the seventh time in the history of the series, the race coverage will air domestically and be syndicated internationally. In addition, SCORE will celebrate its 49th desert-racing season in 2022 with the expected return to pre-pandemic race operations. As in years past, the season opener will be held in San Felipe. The three additional events will start and finish in Ensenada, considered the off-road capital of the world. The BFGoodrich Tires 54th SCORE Baja 500 presented by 4 Wheel Parts will be held June 1–5, in Ensenada, and the season-ending BFGoodrich Tires 55th SCORE Baja 1000 presented by 4Wheel Parts will be held November 15–20, in Ensenada. After being postponed due to the pandemic, the SCORE Baja 400 will be held September 13–18, in Baja California. The 2022 schedule marks the third time the newest SCORE Baja race will take place. SCORE racing features some of the best competitors from all over the US and as many as 30 countries. Races include classes for pro and sportsman cars, trucks, UTVs, motorcycles, and quads. "We welcome the challenge to continue to add to the illustrious SCORE Baja racing legacy. And to finish the season with the iconic SCORE Baja 1000 always attracts top racers from around the world,” stated SCORE International President/Race Director Jose A. Grijalva. 2022 SCORE World Desert Championship Schedule 35th SCORE San Felipe 250 March 29-April 3, San Felipe, Baja California, Mexico BFGoodrich Tires 54th SCORE Baja 500, presented by 4 Wheel Parts June 1-5, Ensenada, Baja California, Mexico 3rd SCORE Baja 400 September 13-18, Ensenada, Baja California, Mexico BFGoodrich Tires 55th SCORE Baja 1000, presented by 4 Wheel Parts November 15-20, Ensenada, Baja California, Mexico For more information, visit www.score-international.com. REMEMBERING JOHN LANGLEY On Saturday, June 26, champion desert racer John Langley passed from an apparent heart attack while racing with his son Zak in a local desert race in Baja California, Mexico. The creator of ‘Reality TV’ with his long-running COPS television show, Langley, 78, lived life to the fullest and started desert racing in a huge way in 2008 with his vastly popular COPS Racing Team. An American television and film director, writer, producer, and Hollywood icon, Langley was a champion desert racer even though he didn’t start his desert racing until was 67 years old. His COPS TV show ran for 32 seasons and produced over 1,000 episodes, but for the people of Baja California and the entire desert racing community he was known as ‘Papa John’ the affable philanthropic personality who campaigned at least three, four, and sometimes five race vehicles in the SCORE World Desert Championship. During his more than a decade of racing with SCORE, he won the Class 4 season point championship in 2010 after winning his class in that year’s SCORE Baja 1000. His crowning victory was in 2017 when he teamed with Steve Hengeveld and Kash Vessels to win the Trophy Truck Spec class in the 50th anniversary of the legendary SCORE Baja 1000 race from Ensenada to La Paz. In 2011 Langley was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Born in Oklahoma City, Langley served in the intelligence unit of the U.S. Army in the early 1960s before graduating from Cal State Dominguez Hills and attending U.C. Irvine for grad school. COPS racing was a family team with his son Zak racing in SCORE Trophy Truck and his other son Morgan driving in the unlimited Class 1. Morgan oversees Langley Productions and is an executive producer of COPS. Zak is the team manager of COPS Racing. Surviving him are his wife Maggie, sons Morgan and Zak, daughters Sarah Langley Dews and Jennifer Blair, as well as seven grandchildren. John Langley will be missed by the entire desert racing community, especially in Baja California.
