USICERINKS.COM JULY.AUGUST.2021 / 43 Apex Park and Recreation District in Arvada, Colorado, operates more than a dozen facilities to enhance the health of our community socially, emotionally, and physically. The Apex Center, a large recreation facility that totals 168,500 square feet, houses the Apex Center Ice Arena, which includes two NHL- sized rinks that were constructed more than two decades ago in 2000. We utilized our facility assessment to help identify and prioritize maintenance projects for a 20-year span. After seeking approval from our Board of Directors for funding, we began an eight-week mainte- nance project on the West Rink that included re-facing the poly and kick plate, replacing 10 steel frames, re-leveling the sand subfloor, and pouring concrete on the resurfacer ramp approaching the ice. The project will essentially make the rink play like new for hockey programs. We are excited about the results of this project that will provide excellent facility conditions for our community for the next 20 years!
