MENTAL HEALTH
ART MEDITATION
ArtFusion 19464 is a long-standing SEI Cares partner and a nonprofit community art
center located in downtown Pottstown, PA. We have been serving our community for
over 16 years. Our mission is to enrich the lives of the residents in the greater Pottstown
area through the visual arts, regardless of ethnicity and economic situations. Our goal
is to spark creativity, build self-confidence and develop community bonds through
education, mentoring and community service. www.artfusion19464.org
This project is all about the process, letting go of detail and perfection and just
playing with shapes and colors. Consider it a form of art meditation, a way to step
back from the issues and stressors of the moment and do something completely
different. It can fill whatever time you have available, whether a quick 15-minute break,
or a whole hour to yourself.
SUPPLIES
■ Watercolor paints
The simple eight-color palette made for kids work just fine. If you don't
have watercolors, markers or even colored pencils can work too.
■ White paper
Thicker is better but any paper will work. I like to cut 8-1/2"x11" paper into
smaller pieces. It makes it less intimidating to get started if you have a
smaller page to fill.
■ A piece of cardboard, posterboard, mat board,
cardstock or foam core
Something nice and stiff that stands up without bending or curling.
■ Scissors
■ Paint brush
■ Glue stick
■ Water cup
■ Paper towels
■ Newspaper to protect your work surface
