A 2019 Pew survey found that two-thirds of
Catholics do not believe that Christ is truly present
in the Eucharist, but that it is a mere symbol. This
is compounded by a misunderstanding of what the
Church actually teaches with regards to receiving
the Body of Christ whilst in a state of grace. Both of
these serve as a wake-up call for better formation
among Catholics, not assuming that people know the
essential aspects of the Catholic faith.
