The Mass was concelebrated by Archbishop Samuel J. Aquila and Bishop Joseph L. Coffey of the Archdiocese for the Military Services. Con- fessions were offered for the veterans, and Bishop Coffey delivered the homily, where he invited fallen-away veterans to return to the Church and find strength in Jesus Christ. LOCAL N E WS Veterans Honored at In God We Trust Mass Camp St. Malo celebrated its 101st anniversary with a special celebra- tion at the storied camp located just outside of Estes Park. Among those in attendance to mark the historic occasion were Archbishop Samuel J. Aquila and Cardinal J. Francis Staf- ford, who spoke about the legacy of the camp and the time St. John Paul II paid a visit during World Youth Day 1993. To hear Cardinal Stafford's full remarks, visit campstmalo.org. PHOTO BY DANIEL PETTY Father William Meninger, O.C.S.O., a Trappist monk of St. Joseph's Abbey in Spencer, died in the monastery's infirmary on Feb. 14, 2021. At St. Joseph's Abbey, Father William was the monastery's guestmaster and retreat master for 15 years. He also served as prior, dean of the junior professed monks and professor of scripture, liturgy, and patristics. In 1974, he initiated a program of stud- ies based on The Cloud of Unknowing, the work of an anonymous 14th century English hermit. Father Meninger's efforts to promote the message of this book developed into an international network of conferences augmented by scores of published books. In 1982, Father Meninger transferred his monastic stability to the Spencer abbey's daughter-house of St. Benedict in Snowmass, Colo., where he served as prior, novice master and vocations direc- tor as well as professor of theology and scripture. In 2020, with his health declin- ing, he transferred back to St. Joseph's Abbey to live in its infirmary where, as his energy allowed, he continued engaging in regular Zoom conferences on contempla- tive prayer. With gratitude for his venerable pres- ence among us, the brothers commend Father William's soul to your prayers. Due to the restrictions of COVID-19 protocols, services and burial were private.
