SESVanderHave develops and delivers competitive sugarbeet varieties in many markets around the world. In the U.S., the company focuses on the needs of growers in each production region. Research and testing are also incorporated to evaluate new genetics to meet the local demands. Now, let's review each market within the U.S. and highlight opportunities for growers with SESVanderHave. California Spreckels Sugar Company growers have seen SV varieties rise to the top of official trials the last few years and are seeing the same results in their fields. SV 602TT provides excellent early sugar and yield and still has sufficient heat tolerance to shine from April through the end of June. SESVanderHave continues to screen all lots produced for California, checking for field emergence, heat tolerance and field vigor, and only selling lots that perform at the highest level. Minn-Dak Farmers Cooperative Growers have been very happy with the SESVanderHave performance in their fields, which often reflects what they see in the official trial results. SV788 has proven Rhizoctonia tolerance in the official trials, and that trait has carried through for growers. SV762 is a well-balanced variety with very good Cercospora tolerance and good tolerance to both Aphanomyces and Rhizoctonia. This workhorse variety takes a backseat only to the higher- yielding SV655, which is excellent in both RSA and RST. Southern Minnesota Beet Sugar Cooperative Grower's face rhizomania, Cercospora, Rhizoctonia and Aphanomyces at very challenging levels in the U.S. Research in the SMBSC growing region has shown consistent performance in these difficult fields with varieties SV863, SV862 and SV894. Reviewing the extensive data (proprietary trials, OVT trials , strip trials and grower experiences), the foundation of two sources of rhizomania tolerance, very good Cercospora tolerance combined with good Aphanomyces and Rhizoctonia tolerances make these varieties solid contributors to the choices offered the SMBSC growers. Data from SMBSC official trials show SV genetics are very well-adapted to the SMBSC region and are proven stable in many different situations. American Crystal Sugar Company These growers also face many challenges, though the severity of diseases varies greatly across the Red River Valley. SESVanderHave analyzes data from proprietary trials, grower strip trials, official variety trials and numerous disease nursery trials to select specific hybrids to meet the challenges growers face. SV375 is a high sugar type with low SLM, and also contains good Cercospora and Aphanomyces tolerance. When Rhizoctonia creates yield challenges, SV265 meets that challenge. It is a highly vigorous hybrid that provides excellent revenue at the end of the season. SV203 has excellent sugar (especially for early harvest), and with a balanced disease package, delivers above-average revenue per acre.
