BACK IN THE SADDLE Cody Parkhouse Gets Another Win At The 2021 SCORE BaJa 400 Story By Stuart Bourdon Photography by Get Some Photo Brian and Cody (DOR) Parkhouse are a father and son driving team campaigning a Class 1 Jimco race car in the 2021 SCORE World Desert Championship off-road racing series. The Parkhouse Racing team is an experienced group of family and friends with many years of successful competition under their belts. The stars aligned again for the Parkhouse team last year, and with some skilled driving and a potent race car, they won the 2020 SCORE Class 1 Championship. Wearing the No. 100 Class 1 plate on their car this season, they began with trouble at the 34th SCORE San Felipe 250. The classic spring race was going well until the car had fueling issues. That left the team with a fifth-place finish. At the next event, the 53rd SCORE Baja 500, the race started out smoothly but they again met trouble and were unable to finish the race. Having pushed the reset button, the team changed up a few things on the car and adjusted their race strategy before heading to Baja for the third time for the 2nd Annual SCORE Baja 400 presented by VP Racing Fuels. This time, everything came together and the Parkhouse team finished first in their class after a grueling race. “Cody started the car and drove to race mile 195,” said Brian Parkhouse at the finish line. “The car was running perfectly, and we were pulling away from the pack (Class 1) early on. Other than the terrible racecourse conditions and having to find our way through thick dust in some stretches, it was a pretty uneventful race for us– and that’s a good thing.” During qualifying, Cody Parkhouse managed to get the first starting position for the race, and their race strategy on the course also helped keep them in the lead. “We stopped for one last splash (of gas) at Ojos Negros on the way back into the finish, and it’s good we did,” said Brian Parkhouse. “While in the pit, the tire pressure monitor began signaling that the right rear tire was going down. We changed it, and then I drove the car into the finish as fast as I could without overdriving it.” The Parkhouse Racing team beat their nearest class competitor by 20 minutes, and they were on top of the off-road racing world once again. Both Cody and Brian are preparing for the 54th BFGoodrich Tires SCORE Baja 1000 Presented by 4 Wheel Parts. If they win, they would be within reach for a repeat class championship, but they have to get ahead of current class points leaders Mario Fuentes and Shelby Reid to do it.
