THE BOLIVIAN IRONMAN KTM’s Juan Carlos Salvatierra Wins Two In-A-Row By Dan Sanchez Photos by Get Some Photo In 2020, the KTM Bolivian racers came to race in Baja and have since made their presence known in the Pro Moto Ironman Class. Juan Carlos Salvatierra once again demonstrated the mental perseverance and technical skills required to win his 4th SCORE Pro Moto Ironman in his SCORE racing career, after taking the checkered flag at the 2nd SCORE Baja 400 Presented by VP Racing Fuels. To date, Salvatierra won the 2020 SCORE Baja 500 and SCORE Baja 1000, winning the championship that year. This season, he finished second at the SCORE San Felipe 250, first at the SCORE Baja 500, and first again at this SCORE Baja 400. “I am extremely happy to win this race as it was both very challenging, and because I had to ride at a maximum effort to finish and keep a good pace,” said Salvatierra. He, along with KTM teammate Fabricio Fuentes, also from Bolivia, have made their mark in SCORE as top racers in this class. Fuentes finished fourth at the SCORE San Felipe 250, second at the SCORE Baja 500, and second here at the SCORE Baja 400. “Once again, it’s great to win one-two, with my Bolivian teammate Fabricio Fuentes,” said Salvatierra. “I am happy for him because he also ran at a very fast pace and we both pushed ourselves. It was a great victory for our country to finish first and second here.” Although the Pro Moto racers get to start the race first well ahead of the 4 wheel vehicles, the course wasn’t any less difficult for Salvatierra. “I thought the course was very challenging and it had the most variety of terrain I have ridden on in a long time,” he said. “It had fast and slow sections, and passed through everything from the mountains to the beach. All the races here in Baja are difficult and this race wasn’t an exception– but we came ready for that.” Salvatierra now has a large lead in the points for a 2021 Season Championship, and if he manages to finish and win the 54th BFGoodrich Tires SCORE Baja 1000 Presented by 4 Wheel Parts this November, he will have secured a second championship season in a row.
