C O M MEN: The Huskies came close to becoming the third Minnesota men's program to win the National Championship, and they had to get there without their leading scorer Easton Brodzinski (Blaine) due to injury. Brodzinski is back and the Huskies are loaded for another deep run. WOMEN: Former North Wright County star Mackenzie Bourgerie looks to build off of a strong freshman campaign for the Huskies. Veteran goalten- der Emma Polusny (Mound) can steal games for the Huskies on any given night. Huskies Tommies Bulldogs MEN: From one lift bridge to another, captain Noah Cates (Stillwater) leads his teams through big games. It's hard to believe UMD is looking for its fifth-straight Frozen Four appear- ance. The Bulldogs got a sniff at three-straight national cham- pionships last spring, and Scott Sandelin will have them ready again come March. WOMEN: The Bulldogs got a huge jolt of offense with the addi- tion of fifth-year transfer Elizabeth Giguere, who won the Patty Kazmaier Award in 2020. Gabbie Hughes (Lino Lakes), Naomi Rogge (Eden Prairie) and Anna Klein (Edina) bolster the attack. MEN: The Tommies got a rough D-I wel- come from the NCAA runner-up Huskies, but they bounced back admirably the next night. It will only be a matter of time for the men's team to become a CCHA and NCAA contender. WOMEN: The Tommies racked up their first Division I victory on Oct. 2 with a 2-1 come-from-be- hind victory. Bloomington Jefferson alum and Division III holdover Luci Bianchi scored the game-winner, a fit- ting storyline for the upstart program led by Joel Johnson.
