Located on East Colfax Avenue, the ministry center is run by volunteers from Queen of Peace Catholic parish. In 2018, the future of the soup kitchen was in doubt as their building was listed for sale, until an anony- mous person purchased the building and promised to keep the ministry going. And the service to the community has continued, even through the pan- demic, as the soup kitchen never shut down, but continued to provide meals for 200 people a day. On Thursday, November 4, a 35-year anniversary celebration was held, attended by Archbishop Samuel Aquila, Aurora Mayor Mike Coffman, and Queen of Peace pastor Father Felix Medina-Algaba. Rodriguez marked his fifth anniversary of being ordained auxiliary bishop for the Archdiocese of Denver. We wish to extend our sincere congratulations to Bishop Rodriguez and thank him for his steadfast faithfulness! PHOTO BY ANYA SEMENOFF 40 NOVEMBER 2021 | DENVER CATHOLIC Five years a bishop Earlier this year, Pope Francis issued a motu proprio restricting Masses celebrated in the extraordinary form of the Roman Rite, more popu- larly known as the Latin Mass. In accordance with the Holy Father's motu proprio, Arch- bishop Samuel J. Aquila has issued a new decree explaining how Traditionis Custodes will be implemented among the archdiocese's parishes and pastors. In summary, the par- ishes and priests in the arch- diocese that already celebrate the extraordinary form of the Latin Rite will be allowed to continue to do so under the new decree. Priests who do not currently have permission to celebrate the extraordinary form and wish to celebrate it at their parishes must send a formal request to the archbishop, which will then be submitted to Rome. Lastly, St. John Vianney and Redemptoris Mater seminaries will not train priests to celebrate the extraor- dinary form of the Latin Rite. In the official decree, Arch- bishop Aquila notes that the continuation of the extraordi- nary form of the Mass at the parishes where it has been established "will contribute to the spiritual good of the faithful." He also asks that "all priests ministering in the Archdiocese of Denver are to show reverence in celebrating the Mass, following the rubrics and words in the Missal, whether according to the 1962 Roman Missal or to the cur- rent Roman Missal."
