Celery – Diseases 92 Midwest Veg Guide 2022 Late Blight of Celery - Septoria Fungus Late blight (Septoria leaf blight) include irregularly-shaped brown spots on leaves with pycnidia similar in appearance to grains of ground black pepper. Over time, these leaf spots expand and cause the entire leaf to die. May be seedborne. Non-Pesticide Use disease-free seed. Hot water seed treatment may reduce this seedborne disease. Use temperatures and times of 118 F for 30 minutes for celery. Rotate to non-host crops for 2 years. Varieties with partial resistance are available. Prompt destruction of the finished crop with tillage to rapidly breakdown tissue is an important method to prevent disease build-up.
