FACTORY HONDA WINS WITH HANNA Elias Hanna Wins His Sixth SCORE BaJa 1000 Of His Career By Dan Sanchez, Paul Hanson, Guilherme Torres, and Jose Vazquez Photos by Get Some Photo Elias Hanna demonstrated once again that the hometown Ensenada native can bring home a victory. This time it was in the SCORE Pro UTV NA Class in the Factory Honda Talon, during the 54th BFGoodrich Tires SCORE Baja 1000 Presented by 4 Wheel Parts. A veteran SCORE racer, Hanna has honed his driving skills over his career across several different classes including, SCORE Trophy Truck Spec, 7SX, and most recently in the SCORE Pro UTV classes. This latest win comes as the competition in all of SCORE’s Pro UTV classes dramatically increases as the number of competitors coming into the class has had experience in other racing classes as well. At the start of this race, Hanna started tenth but quickly made his way up to lead the class on the course. “By the time we reached Ojos Negro, we were in first place,” said Hanna. “Our work and strategy to be at first place on the course early in the race, and using that to set our pace worked well for us.” The SCORE Pro UTV NA class also has two of the fastest racers in Pro UTV, Kristen Matlock and Kaden Wells, both have finished in the top four positions in every race this season. Hanna’s best was fifth place in the SCORE Baja 500, but because he’s had experience running the peninsula, he changed his overall game plan. “We ran a faster pace through the night because we didn’t have any dust,” said Hanna. “We had two flats and battled hard in the beginning miles. I was pushing so hard at the end because I knew (Kaden) Wells was coming in fast.” At the finish line, Hanna knew he had won the race, and was elated at taking the win for the Factory Honda Talon team. “This year, Honda had specific races they wanted us to do, and they kept us from some of our favorites,” said Hanna. “But there was no way I was going to let them make me miss the SCORE Baja 1000 this year. We finished the race and ended with a great result. We can’t be any prouder to give Honda such a great honor. This is my sixth SCORE Baja 1000 race, and my third peninsula run. I love this type of race because it’s great to see all the people along the course, many of them waving the Mexican flag along the way. It was great.” SJ
